--What do people do in the winter when it's dark all the time?

Well, they turn on the lights, of course! Seriously, though -- people behave just like the rest of the world behaves during the evenings when it's dark out. They can go out to stores and restaurants and movie theatres. It's also an opportunity to pick up that book that you've been too busy to read. Take up a new hobby or cook some of your favorite, winter, comfort foods.

Many people go sledding on lighted hills or cross country skiing on lighted trails. Indoor shooting ranges are fun and snow machining, ice fishing, ice skating and snowshoeing are also options.

If the cold deters you, making a bonfire, cooking s'mores and drinking hot toddies with friends is a great time. Or - just as anywhere else - getting together at a friend's house and watching movies or playing games and just enjoying one another's company, is nice.

With so much darkness, it's wonderful to turn off all the lights in your house, open the curtains and stare at the Northern Lights! Fairbanks is the ideal location for this. What a spectacular show that most of the world cannot view!

Have you ever sat in a hot tub with snow all around? Well, the hot springs are a large-scale version of this famous Vail, Colorado pastime. Combine that with your Northern Lights show and what could be better?!

Lastly, many people spend a lot of their winters working their handicrafts to sell during the spring and summer at outdoor markets and fairs and such. Overall, by the time you exhaust all the options above, Spring is peaking at you from around the corner!
